The Birth of the Idea

What could I possibly do for my mom that would encapsulate the love and memories we share?

This recurring challenge (and a realization that I was once again waiting until the last minute) paved the way for An Idea for Mother's Day (MDAI), an AI-powered tool that would analyze your memories and provide personalize suggestions for a mother’s day gift.

The AIMD Team

Initial visual design was handled by Andi Bañez, who took on the challenge of creating a tone and selecting a color scheme and typography (Andi also handled the asset creation for our Product Hunt launch). For backend & AI, Saad Zafar lent his wizardry to help me set up an AI system langchain and Modal. Sebastian Marshall and Xavier Dunikowski helped with testing, product refinment, and launching on Product Hunt. The site itself was built on Sveltekit and deployed via Vercel.

AI-driven Suggestions

Getting answers with AI is easy. Asking the right questions is often not.

AIMD aimed to scaffold the questions in a way that would make sense to the user and also give them a chance to reflect on their memories with their mother.

After receiving the user’s answers, AIMD would be prompted to make personalize gift suggestions, including urls for local venues that might be able to provide a unique experience.

An AI for Mother’s Day

Sparks of AI-Augmented Humanity

“An Idea for Mother’s Day” was made to be more than just a product, but a testament to how AI can be harnessed to help bring out the best of humanity. It not only made gift-giving easier but also more meaningful.
